It has been a privilege to take part in the mentoring program at Juilliard. I was incredibly fortunate to be paired with a great mentor and teacher outside the drama division. Through our different approaches we have been able to find an interesting way to form a dialogue that has impacted my work immensely and has allowed me to approach my craft from a different angle. We have tried to meet on weekly basis throughout the school year. Our meetings have mostly been about my work in school and how I can approach it in a new way, but we have also spent time together drinking coffee and talking about life. Not being able to return home over thanksgiving break, she opened up her home to me, where I was able to meet her incredible family and have my first real thanksgiving dinner.
Studying at Juilliard is very demanding. My mentor has truly served me as a wonderful guide into a new way of thinking about my work – which has been the most satisfying part of our relationship. The mentoring program has exceeded all of my expectations, creating a wonderful co-learning partnership and hopefully a lifelong friendship.
